July Check-In

I wanted to check in with life in my little world, so even though it's not quite the end of the month, I am going to post an update on Simply Tice Life anyways. (Besides, the next few weeks are going to be busy and I am likely to forget to post this if I don't do it now!)

July Check-In

Geek and Fandom Life

Since I was still recovering from surgery for most of the month, July has seen a lot of binge watching anime, old episodes of Supernatural and Doctor Who, as well as lots of game play. The hubby and I have spent our summer playing Injustice 2* and Diablo III*. Can I just say that as much as I love Wonder Woman in any incarnation, I despise her on Injustice? Mostly because she is slow moving IMO (I prefer Black Canary and The Flash as I am a fast button masher. I admit it!) but also because you can tell she is way more evil than Superman in the story mode. But I digress.

I also have been LOVING Levar Burton Reads. This podcast is Reading Rainbow for adults and if you can't get behind that, then we can't be friends. Kidding. Sort of. It is really amazing and I love the sound of Burton's voice. Make it part of your week. It will change you.

This month also saw our delayed wedding reception. Back in November when we did the courthouse thing, we passed on the reception in favor of partying at a later date. That date was July 22nd. staying consistent with our Whovian nature, we had a Doctor Who themed party with Phil dressed as the Meta-Crisis Doctor and I was the TARDIS*. I felt like a princess! We encouraged everyone to come as their favorite time/space traveler and people did not disappoint. Pictures will come soon, but here is a sneak peak until then.

Health and Wellness Life

At our reception, we were gifted an essential oil diffuser and I am in love y'all! With dogs, a cat and tiny rodent pets, our house can occasionally smell of animal. It happens. But with this diffuser, you can't tell that we just brought the dogs in from a walk. The house just smells clean. Currently we are using lavender, lemon and eucalyptus essential oils. I have several others to try, but this blend seems to remove any doggy smell quickly without pestering any of the pets.

As mentioned in my "Living with Depression" post, I am still taking SAM-e* to help with my mental state daily as well as tending to my container garden and practicing self-care regularly.

Home Life

We have been slowly paring down items we no longer want either through flea market sales or donations and have been storage unit free for a month now (yay!). I must say I like knowing that our excess stuff is ready for the next flea market trip once the weather isn't set to "Hell."

Even though we are getting rid of what we don't want, we have picked up a few new finds. Our front room now sports a simple desk with lamp complete with a USB port, our trunk has a lovely pillow matching the lamp and we officially have not one but two unicorn busts in two different sizes, one is average display size and the other is a locker magnet and small. Weird? Maybe but to be fair, we have been looking for one since we got glasses with one of the British Coat of Arms featuring a lion and unicorn. We found a lion head bust and bottle opener quickly and after at least 3 years, we finally have unicorn busts! (Sorry I don't have a photo yet, these finds are new and I need to make sure they are photograph-ready and not covered in pet hair!)

Spiritual Life

One of my friends started a radio show with two other lovely ladies that can be heard every Monday or streamed afterward called Goddess Talk. I love it as they are working to build up listeners in so many ways. If you are at all interested in the Divine Feminine, take a listen.

Work Life

So mid-month I was released from the doctor and allowed to return back to work as normal. I am exhausted. ALL. THE. TIME. In fact, today I woke up with a fever and stomach bug that I can assume came from exhaustion mixed with germs that I haven't been exposed to in over a month. Trying to get back into the swing of things has been difficult. Partly because my work schedule changed and I now work out of two offices, one on each end of the island, every day. Since I prefer to take my lunch anyways and because I have a break in my morning work routine with switching offices, I am taking advantage of a few office lunch helpers. The first is my Crock-Pot® Lunch Crock® Warmer*. While it does not cook food, this little guy reheats your food up and keeps it perfectly hot until lunch time (it has been known to cook oatmeal, pasta, quinoa and simple soups using pre-cooked ingredients). The second is my little desk mini fridge cooler (similar to this one*). This guy keeps my creamer cold for my afternoon hot chocolate/coffee as well as a can of soda and any snacks I want. It holds up to a six pack of cans, has a removable shelf and can keep things warm or cold.

Lastly, I would be lost without a great playlist or ten. I have been playing our party playlist as well as a productivity playlist I follow on Spotify. Take a listen! Just no judging my eclectic music taste...

OK, the next few weeks are going to be busy but I am going to try and still post at least once a week. See you then!

  1. I am so sorry you had to postpone your wedding. (My bf hasn't decided to get married, yet... So I can only imagine the pain in the butt to have to wait a little bit longer to walk down the aisle...)
I cannot say I am a Whovian but I certainly like David Tenant... what do you think about the new doctor? Are you excited to see the new series? I think I might give it a try, why not... when I was in London I tried watching Dr Who a couple of times... I am sadden to say, it did not work out for me.
I am a fan of Sherlock...
Anyway, I hope you are recovering well from you surgery!!!

    1. We were able to get married on November 23rd, the anniversary date of the original Doctor Who premier, but only delayed the reception. Yes, we are big geeks! Haha. I'm looking forward to the new Doctor. I haven't seen her in much but every actor brings a part of themselves to the role and I can't wait to see what she will bring.

If you want to give it a try again, Amazon Prime has the entire modern series available on their instant video. But if you don't, it's ok too! My best friend doesn't even watch it, she just listens when I babble.

  3. Your life sounds busy, busy, busy! I hope you get over being so tired all the time, I definitely know how that is. Just started working ten-hour shifts from 2-midnight and they are taking a toll on me. Hopefully I'll get past it eventually.

    1. Oh wow! I can't imagine working that shift, I start to become useless after about 4 PM myself. You need one of those French press coffee mugs or tea strainer mugs to give yourself an evening pick me up!

    1. It's my new favorite podcast and I could literally listen to every episode over and over. His voice is as relaxing as they come and hearing it makes me feel like I'm back in grade school, sitting in the library, watching Reading Rainbow, with no worries. Ahhh to be that young again!
